Lumecca FAQs

What Is Lumecca?

Lumecca is the most powerful intense pulsed light (IPL) created to treat pigmented and vascular skin lesions. It operates using heat to destroy unwanted cells. The technology it uses has a higher peak power that delivers a stronger result than other IPL machines on the market, and this translates in less amount of treatment sessions to obtain the desired results.

What are the benefits?

Lumecca treatments improve skin complexion, reduce skin irregularities and help patients look years younger. It improves the appearance of age spots (red/brown pigmentations), vascular lesions such as facial telangiectasias (spider veins) and poikiloderma, rosacea (redness), freckles, and sun damage.

What areas can be treated?

Any areas of the body can be treated with Lumecca. The most common areas of treatment are zones that are regularly exposed to the sun. This often includes the face, neck, décolletage, legs, hands, and arms.

What steps must be taken before the procedure?

Avoid direct, excessive sun exposure or tanning one month prior to treatment. For darker skin types, it is recommended to go through a bleaching treatment several weeks prior to treatment.

What should I expect during and after Lumecca?

Patient usually lays in a comfortable position that allows for treatment. Skin is cleaned throughout. Gel is applied to the treated area. And once the Lumecca handpiece is positioned in area, bright flashes of light are fired. They tend to feel like a light elastic sensation. Redness and a slight warming of the skin are normal after treatment and usually subside within an hour. Over the next one to two days, you may see some darkening of pigmented spots that will end up flaking off during the following days leading to an evening out of skin tone.

How many sessions are required?

Treatment regimen depends on the severity of skin damage, skin type, type of treatment (vascular vs sun damage) and energy settings. Usually, 3-6 sessions are recommended, but many patients see results after just one session.

How quickly will I see results?

Sun damage and skin complexion results can be seen a few days after the first session. The skin will continue to look younger and more brilliant over time with most visible results after 1-2 weeks. Having multiple photofacial sessions will improve the final result. For vascular treatments such as facial telangiectasias, results can be seen in up to 2 weeks.

Are there any side effects?

Most patients do not experience any side effects and any skin reaction usually resolves within a few hours. Patients may find they are sensitive to sunlight immediately after treatment. It is recommended to avoid direct sunlight and tanning.
