DiolazeXL
Laser Hair Reduction
DiolazeXL is a diode laser beam that directs high-energy light through the skin and toward melanin (a dark skin pigment) located at the roots of the hair follicles. This light emitted from the laser heats up melanin and destroys the follicles, significantly preventing future hair growth. DiolazeXL can achieve a permanent hair reduction. It is a safe, non-invasive, and effective option that saves us from all past abrasive methods that break the protective surface of the skin.
DiolazeXL FAQs
What happens during laser hair removal?
Usually the process is very simple. Area to be treated will be cleaned. Everyone will be wearing protective eyewear. A small area will be tested to ensure treatment is tolerated. Some people are more sensitive than others. Once the session starts, many patients describe laser pulses like warm pinpricks, or a rubber band being snapped against the skin. But with Diolaze XL and its cooling system, this sensation is diminished. As the laser removes hair, occasionally there is a faint sulfur-like smell.

Duration of session depends on the size of the area being treated. Treating the armpits takes 10 minutes. If you are having a large area like the back or legs treated, your treatment may last close to an hour.

What are the aftercare recommendations ?
It is very important to avoid direct sunlight from hitting your treated skin and to use sunscreen for the following 3 weeks. Also, do not use a tanning bed, sun lamp, or any other indoor tanning equipment. Soothing solutions such as aloe, may be applied in the treated area. Cool compress can also help reduce discomfort.

Is there any downtime?
No, laser hair removal generally does not require any real downtime.

When will I see the results?
Every person is different but, usually results are noted immediately after treatment. Several factors affect the results: the color and thickness of your hair, area treated, type of laser used, and color of your skin. You can expect a 10% to 25% reduction in hair after the first treatment.

How many treatments do I need?
To achieve desired results, most patients need 6 to 8 laser treatments.

How long will the results of laser hair removal last?
Most patients remain hair free for months or even years. When some of the hair regrows, it will likely be less noticeable. To keep the area free of hair, a patient may need maintenance laser treatments.

What are the possible side effects?
The most common side effects are minor and may last 1 to 3 days. These side effects include: sensitive area, mild swelling, and redness. Less commonly patients may experience blistering, Herpes simplex (cold sores) outbreaks, infections, scarring, or skin lightening or darkening. In time, skin color tends to return to normal. Some changes to skin color, however, are permanent. This is why seeing a medical doctor who is skilled in laser treatments is so important, as well as following both the before-treatment instructions and after-treatment instructions.

How soon can I have the next laser treatment?
Most patients can have laser hair removal once every 4 to 6 weeks, especially for the first sessions. Treatments can be moved farther away for the last sessions.

What is the safety record for laser hair removal?
Lasers have become very safe over the years and biomedical engineering advances. In the past, only people with dark hair and light skin could safely and successfully have laser hair removal. Nowadays, laser hair removal is a treatment option for patients who have light-colored hair and light skin and even for patients who have dark skin. However, it must be performed very carefully in these patients and by experienced personnel.
